Youtube can be the next hiring platform!

Keep Scrolling!

This is how my Youtube experience is these days. And stop judging me! Yes, I am a middle aged man who follows Mr. Beast 😀 . But let’s come to the point on why I think Youtube can be a serious competitor to hiring sites and specially Linkedin. As creator economy is growing and some of the Youtube channels are structured like a small media production houses, they are hiring people and many of them are even ok with fully remote hiring. These jobs can range anywhere from digital marketer to Machine learning engineer like Lex is looking for. But so far, there only option is to post on their channels and send people to their career pages. It does not benefit either of the parties involved here.

However, I think there is an opportunity here. In my experience lot of hiring is social, in fact the best kind of hiring is via references which is a form of non-digital social hiring. Problem with references is that there are only so many people you have the opportunity to know and work with. But digital platforms like Linkedin or Youtube allow us to showcase our skills and become more discoverable. Now imagine a world, where Jimmy Donaldson aka Mr Beast is opening a new Beast bruger store and he needs folks for few days to open that store. He already has a huge following on Youtube and millions of fans. He posts the job and boom, now some of his fans have the opportunity to work with him. Same goes for permanent jobs! Would you like to work with a sound engineer who also shares your creative taste or with someone who is just looking for a job?!

Now obviously, Youtube will not build a feature for such a small niche as there millions of channels who do not get no where near enough eyeballs like Mr Beast or Lex Fridman, but hang in there, there is more to it. Have you ever tried to learn any technical skills? If you have, chances are that you started with a Google search and end up with some Indian guy teaching you Python. Now imagine you are tech recruiter and looking for those skills, would you prefer someone who has mastered that skill and shared it with thousands, if not millions or with someone whom you have to spend hours to screen. My guess is you would prefer the former! That is why I think Youtube can be hiring platform for many global jobs. Would you be open to show your skills on Youtube and get the next opportunity?
